I'm getting my first car a Subaru impreza wrx, which one?

I'm 17 and I'm getting my first car. I'm deciding between a very nice 2003 Subaru impreza wrx and another 2006. I like them both which would be the better choice? performance wise is what I'm looking for. if the 2003 is slower can I easily make it as fast or faster than the 06?
